Four months before the brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright, who flew for the first time on 17 December 1903 in the sand dunes of Kitty Hawk in the USA, the Hannover magistrate official, Karl Jatho lifted off in the first ever “air hop” at Vahrenwalder Heide near Hanover.
In November 1903, still a month before what is known as the first engine-powered flight in history, Jatho flew 60 meters with his significantly improved “Motordrachen Nr. 2”.
The renaming of the General Aviation Terminal as the “Karl Jatho Terminal” is Hannover Airport’s official tribute to one of the world's greatest aviation pioneers
